How Path_Mil works
Path_Mil is a campus and area carpool board: people going the same way at the same time find each other, agree on a shared fare, and travel together. This page explains in detail what the site does, page by page.
What the site does
A public ride board
Anyone can browse ride offers and ride requests on the home page or on /rides without signing in — you see route, date, time, seats, vehicle and fare.
Route and time matching
Rides are matched on the same or overlapping route, travel direction, date, time window, free seats, vehicle type and map coordinates.
Requests with approval
A rider sends a join request. The poster approves or declines — the poster always decides who travels.
Privacy first
Phone numbers and chat stay hidden while a request is pending. They unlock only after approval.
Private in-app chat
Approved riders and posters message each other inside Path_Mil, and only the two of them can read that conversation.
Live location
Once approved, both sides can see each other's live location on the ride page during the trip.
Automatic cleanup
A ride disappears from the site 7 days after its travel date, so the board never fills up with dead posts.
The full flow, step by step
1. Sign up
Create an account with email or Google. Your profile holds your name and photo so other people know who they are travelling with.
2. Post a ride
Press Post a ride and pick a kind: offer if you have empty seats, request if you need a lift. Fill in From, To (Google suggests real place names, and you can type them in Bangla too), date, time, number of seats, vehicle type, fare and a short note. The post gets a short ride ID and a map link.
3. Search your route
Use From, To and Date filters on the home page, or Today / Tomorrow buttons, or the tabs All, Seats available and Ride requests. Tick Show past rides to see recent trips. New posts and approvals appear on the page without refreshing.
4. Check the ride card
Each card shows who is travelling, the route, the time, seats left and a Google Maps link. Opposite-direction posts match too: your offer Uttara to Motijheel shows the request Motijheel to Uttara for the same day and time.
5. Request to join
Press Request to join on the card. The poster gets a pending count in the header and sees the request in My rides. Until they approve, you cannot see their phone number and cannot open the chat.
6. Approve, then talk
The poster approves the rider they want. Now phone number, in-app chat and live location unlock for both sides, so you can agree on the pickup point, share the fare and track the trip.
What each page on the website does
/ (Home)
The main ride feed with From/To/Date filters, tabs for offers and requests, a past-rides switch, and links to every guide page.
/rides
A wider public search: filter by From, To, date and time, open any ride, and see suggested matches. Works without an account, and never shows anybody's phone number.
/post
The posting form — offer or request, route with Google place suggestions, date, time, seats, vehicle, fare and notes.
/ride/{id}
A single ride: full details, map link, seats left, request-to-join button, and after approval the phone number, chat and live location.
/my-rides
Your own dashboard: posts you made, requests you received (approve or decline), rides you joined, matched rides for each post, and delete a single post when you no longer need it.
/auth
Sign in, sign up, or continue with Google. Also shows the public ride feed so visitors can keep browsing.
/how-it-works
This page — the full explanation of what the site does and how each part works.
Guide pages
/about-carpooling, /carpool-safety, /dhaka-carpool, /bike-ride-share and /campus-carpool explain carpooling itself, benefits, safety tips and route-specific advice.
Privacy and safety rules
Contacts are stored separately
Phone numbers are not part of the public ride post. They live in a private table that only the ride owner and approved riders can read.
Nothing leaks before approval
Pending requests show no phone number and no chat access on the ride card or the public feed.
Chat is only for participants
Messages on a ride can be read only by the poster and the riders approved on that ride — not by other users and not by search engines.
You stay in control
Delete one of your ride posts at any time, or delete your whole account; the rides and requests you made are removed with it.
Meet safely
Pick up at a known landmark, confirm vehicle, time and fare before the trip, and tell someone your route.
How a ride is matched
Same route or shared stops
Posts whose From/To overlap, or that share an intermediate stop, count as compatible even when the two ends are not identical.
Direction matters
An offer going one way is matched with a request going the opposite way, and offers are matched with offers on the same line.
Date and time window
Matching compares the travel date and the departure time, so a morning post is not paired with a late-night one.
Seats and vehicle
A post with one free seat is not offered to a group, and a bike offer is not pushed to someone who asked for a car seat.
Coordinates
Where a post has map coordinates, the distance between stops is used to judge how close the pickup points really are.
Common questions
Does Path_Mil charge a fee?
No — posting a ride and sending requests is free on this site. The only cost is the fare you agree to share with your co-traveller.
Do I need an account to look at rides?
No. The feed and /rides are public. An account is needed to post a ride, join one, or chat.
What if nobody requests my ride?
Keep the post visible — it stays on the board until 7 days after the travel date, and the ride feed updates live as new posts appear.
Can I use Bangla for the route?
Yes. Type place names in Bangla when posting or searching; the search matches them to the same places written in English.
What happens after the trip?
The ride stays visible for 7 days so others can see it was a real route, then it is removed automatically.
